We've been talking a lot about Online Security lately... why now?
Security has been an issue since the beginning of the internet, but it seems to be more of an issue lately, why is that?
Well- lots of reasons, really; but what we're seeing right now is coming from a convergence of two factors. One is the massive shift towards work from home that the pandemic has created. Remote work in itself is nothing new, but the sheer numbers of workers working from home is. The other factor is that hackers from around the world have gotten more savvy, employing new techniques like Spearphishing, which exploit one weakness businesses can't avoid: People. People falling for scams, clicking on things they shouldn't, unwittingly aiding thieves by trying to provide good customer service... Put these two factors together, and you see new vulnerabilities in home networks and online meeting software, and a rise in severity and occurance in ransomware, data breaches, and scams. Targeted businesses and organizations can lose massive amounts of data, funds, time, and customer confidence in an instant.
So- how can you protect yourself and your business?
Get More Information
Even if you prefer to leave cybersecurity up to a team of trusted professionals (such as Zoku Cloud Services!) it helps to have a basic understanding about what is going on. Earlier this year, our own David Raehpour hosted a webinar on security and remote employees. It is about half an hour long and you can watch it here:
Identify Weaknesses
It's hard to fix things when you don't know what's broken. we offer a free Online Security Audit, to help you locate potential vulnerabilities and learn how to address them.
Take Action
Your security audit should point you in the direction that will be most beneficial to your company. There are several options for steps you can take, including having employees working from home use VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), to cloud-based desktops, servers, and backups, to even cybersecurity insurance.
